Welcome To The Little Elm STEM Academy!

Little Elm STEM Academy is an in-home STEM microschool for children of all abilities ages 4.5 to 14yrs old. Our academy is based in North Texas.

What is a Microschool?

Micro-schooling is the reinvention of the one-room schoolhouse, it is a cross between private school and homeschooling. The class size is typically smaller than that in most schools (we go up to 12 children only) and there are mixed-age level groupings.

Philosophy

Here at The STEM Academy, we want children to be excited about learning, fully engage themselves, and spark their inner curiosity about the world around them. There's an inner inventor, leader, and explorer inside all of us! We wanted to create an environment that provides stress-free, hands-on learning for children of all learning abilities. Our goal is not only to instill a love of learning to learn that will last and inspire, but create an atmosphere for children to support, accept, respect, and understand each other all while working together to create, explore and innovate. It takes a village to grow a tree.

The STEM Academy shall not discriminate, on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, creed, religion, sex or gender, disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, or status with regard to public assistance. Educational Policies

  • Every child learns in a way that works best for them. One part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is the Supplemental Education Services program. Instead of providing tutoring to our students, we create an IEP, or individual education plan, for every student who enrolls in our academy. This allows us to meet the child where they are and to bring them even higher.

  • Every child eats. According to Feeding America, “Forty-one million Americans, including 13 million children, do not reliably have enough food to eat.” Tuition includes breakfast and afternoon snack as well as organic and/or vegan lunches.

  • Parents matter too. In order to make sure that we’re taking care of the entire Little Elm STEM Academy community, we are an expanded program where parents are able to pick up students until 4:30pm. We do this to allow parents to harmoniously balance work life with the educational needs of their children.

  • Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. According to a 2013 study by the RAND Corporation, “1 in 4 children experiences a mental health disorder annually.” We integrate mental health time and physical exercise during our daily activities, and do everything in our power to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our students.
